Summer in the Hudson Valley means baseball season, and for many local families, that includes cheering on the Kent White Sox Travel Baseball League.
The Kent White Sox provide young athletes with the opportunity to compete, improve their skills and represent their community on the field. While the focus may be baseball, the lessons extend far beyond the game. Through practices, tournaments and teamwork, players learn the value of preparation, accountability, perseverance and supporting one another — qualities that serve them well long after the final inning.
The non-profit organization, consisting of 7 teams ranging from 8U through 12U, is committed to creating a positive environment where young athletes can challenge themselves, build confidence and develop a strong sense of sportsmanship. Coaches and volunteers dedicate countless hours to helping players succeed while fostering respect for teammates, opponents and the game itself.
Like many youth sports organizations, Kent White Sox relies on the generosity of supporters to help keep the program running. Donations help offset expenses such as equipment, uniforms, field rentals, tournament entry fees, as well as supporting 12U teams in the young baseball players ‘experience of a lifetime’ trip to compete in the infamous Cooperstown tournament each summer and other costs associated with providing a quality experience for players and their families.
There are many ways to support the organization, whether through a financial contribution, sponsorship or simply by attending games and cheering on the athletes throughout the season. Every show of support helps create opportunities for local players to continue doing what they love.
