After four decades of building one of the Hudson Valley’s most respected law firms, Feldman, Kleidman, Collins & Sappe LLP’s (FKC&S) founding partner, Jeffrey M. Feldman, has publicly announced his plans to retire.
Feldman shared the news for the first time during a recent interview on “The Hudson Valley Business Scene Show,” hosted by Frank Castella Jr., President and CEO of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. The radio program highlights Chamber events and features community leaders from across the region.
With Feldman’s retirement, the firm’s legacy of excellence will continue under the leadership of partners Robert R. Sappe, Kathryn C. Collins and Bain R. Loucks. Each brings deep experience and a long-standing commitment to the firm’s core values, ensuring continuity for clients and colleagues alike. Together, they will carry forward FKC&S’s reputation as an award-winning firm, grounded in skilled advocacy, collaborative teamwork and meaningful community involvement.
During the interview, Feldman reflected on the path that led him to law, beginning with a chemistry degree from Ithaca College and an early plan to pursue business school before a pivotal experience shifted his trajectory toward law. After graduating from Syracuse University College of Law, clerking for a New York State Supreme Court justice and gaining experience in medical malpractice defense, he and his late partner, Paul S. Kleidman, co-founded FKC&S in 1986.
For 40 years, Feldman and his team have shaped FKC&S into a unique firm with a dual focus on plaintiff personal injury matters and medical malpractice defense litigation. He credits the firm’s success not only to its incredible attorneys, but to the full team behind the scenes — from longtime office leadership to support staff — emphasizing a culture built on collaboration, mentorship and mutual respect.
That same philosophy extends beyond the office. The FKC&S team has long prioritized community involvement, dedicating time and financial contributions towards local youth programs and nonprofit initiatives across the region. It’s a commitment that, as Feldman explained, was made possible by the team’s willingness to support one another. He personally plans to remain active with Family Services, Hudson Valley Hospice and the Town of LaGrange Parks & Recreation, among other organizations he holds dear to his heart.
As he retires from daily legal practice, Feldman is looking forward to a different pace of life.
“I decided last summer that it was time to stop working seven days a week, 365 days a year, and spend more time with my family and our grandkids,” Feldman shared.
As Castella noted during the interview, Feldman’s legacy is defined not only by professional excellence, but by a deep and lasting commitment to the community he has long called home.
