At Feldman, Kleidman, Collins & Sappe LLP (FKC&S), we’re proud to support organizations that bring people together in fun and creative ways. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Hudson Valley Horrors Roller Derby, a dynamic league based in Hyde Park that has been thrilling fans and building community through the sport of roller derby for two decades.
Founded in 2006, Hudson Valley Horrors is the world’s first non-urban, flat-track women’s roller derby league that competes against teams throughout the region. The league is part of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, the international governing body for the sport.
The team hosts games and events at Hyde Park Roller Magic, where fans can experience the fast-paced, full-contact sport up close while cheering on some of the Hudson Valley’s most dedicated athletes.
Beyond the excitement of competition, the league is deeply rooted in the community. They run programs and events that introduce new skaters to the sport, including boot camps and opportunities to join the team, and they have even developed a junior league, the Frightmares, for younger athletes interested in roller derby.
League members regularly volunteer their time and energy with a variety of local organizations and nonprofit initiatives throughout the Hudson Valley. From participating in events like The Kingston Artcar Derby and local town parades, to supporting organizations such as the Glisten (formerly known as the GLSEN Project), Hudson Valley SPCA, Grace Smith House and Toys for Tots, the Horrors make community involvement a key part of their mission.
Our team at FKC&S is proud to support grassroots sports organizations like Hudson Valley Horrors so they can continue to grow and thrive. League donations and sponsorships help keep roller derby alive in the region by funding things like equipment, practice space, events, youth programming and travel for competitions.
Community members can support in a variety of ways — by attending bouts, becoming sponsors, volunteering at events or spreading the word about this exciting local team. Every bit of support helps keep the wheels turning for a league that brings athleticism, entertainment and community spirit to the region.
