Volunteers are the heart of nonprofit work and play a crucial role in strengthening our local communities. Whether it’s offering financial support, driving fundraising efforts, serving on boards and committees, organizing and running events, taking part in hands-on projects or spreading awareness, their contributions are diverse and essential. National Volunteer Week is a time for celebrating those dedicated individuals for their tireless efforts — and a great reminder for all of us to find ways to give back and get involved in our own communities.
Since its founding in 1986, Feldman, Kleidman, Coffey & Sappe LLP (FKC&S) has integrated service into its core values, consistently supporting local nonprofits through both financial contributions and volunteerism. This year, the FKC&S team is spotlighting service opportunities offered by two local organizations that are doing incredible work in the region — Hudson Valley Hospice and Abilities First. Both organizations offer a variety of ways for community members to share their time and talents with no special experience required, just a willingness to help.
Whether you have a few hours a week or just a few days a month, volunteering is a meaningful way to connect with others, support causes you care about and enrich your life in the process.
Volunteer with Hudson Valley Hospice
Hudson Valley Hospice provides compassionate care and support to individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers are an essential part of their team, helping ensure patients and their loved ones feel comforted and supported.
Patient care volunteers are specially trained to provide comfort, support and companionship to patients and their families for a few hours each week (depending on the volunteer’s availability). Administrative volunteers provide office assistance, as well as support community outreach efforts and the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation. All volunteers are asked to commit for a minimum of one year and there are patient care volunteer training sessions coming up in October 2025.
Ways to Volunteer:
- Visit patients in their homes or care facilities to provide companionship, conversation and emotional support.
- Transport patients to medical appointments or take them for a drive on a sunny day.
- Assist with errands like grocery shopping or prescription pick-up.
- Provide emotional support.
- Assist with administrative tasks like data entry, filing and mailings.
- Help with community outreach, fundraising initiatives and events such as the annual Tree of Life event and Golf Tournament.
